On his fifth birthday, his grandmother had gotten him a red sparkle DW snare and from that point on, drums and percussion would become an integral part of who he was. Throughout high school, Samuel had received numerous awards for his work with the jazz band, wind ensemble, and marching band. He had built a reputation as a gifted drummer and drum technician in the local music scene, performing with a number of talented bands over the years, and is currently the drummer of the Michigan pop rock act Rival Summers. With Rival Summers, he has toured across the country with established national artists like The Rocket Summer, States, and Lights among many others, performed at the Vans Warped Tour 2012, and has been featured in Alternative Press Magazine multiple times.
