Guitarist, Singer, Songwriter Daniel Kalicki, AKA, DownRiver Dan is known by many in southeast Michigan for his fiery style of guitar playing, singing and songwriting. With his electrified blues and rock music Dan has been entertaining crowds several nights a week since playing his first open mic night at age 16. When he's not playing solo he plays with his band with his band, named 'DownRiver Dan & The Billies'.
The question is often asked of Dan 'Why did you start playing guitar?'
His answer is... I had to.
It all started in 2004. His life, and many others were changed forever with the loss of his best friend, and source of inspiration, his mother. The years following were filled with heartbreak and turmoil. He needed something, a way to refocus his life. This focus came to him by way of music.
He began playing guitar and later singing, which eventually led him to writing songs. Always having an ear for the rock and blues records in his Dad's collection, it was a natural direction for him to go. He attended hi first 'open mic night' at age 16 and have been playing live ever since. With countless hours of practice, along with enrollment in the School of Hard Knocks, he's gained many valuable lessons and experiences. Exploring anything that peaks his interest, He's not afraid to mix things up. His studies have, and continue to include, blues, many styles of rock and roll, country and jazz.
Dan begun shifting from expressing himself with other artists' music to his own. Although you'll find a handful of cover songs in a night's set-list, his heart is beating to his own songs. You'll hear this on his all original CD titled 'Without You'.
Currently Dan has assembled a band consisting of veteran musicians Billy Reyna and Bill Salisbury, whom have performed with various acts from California to New York and toured globally. DownRiver Dan and The Billies are an undeniable three-piece powerhouse with an electrifying show for any occasion and a repertoire in range from the blues of Freddie King, Lonnie Mack and Stevie Ray Vaughan to the rock and roll sounds of Led Zeppelin, The Who and Rush.
