Detroit Concert Choir
About
The Detroit Concert Choir consists of some 70 singers who gather from over 35 communities in and around Detroit and its surrounding tri-county area. The membership includes singers with a rich background in choral music, including music teachers, college students, professionals, and retirees.
Since its initial season in 1987, the Detroit Concert Choir has built a worldwide reputation for choral excellence. This adult, auditioned choir is recognized as a local, national, and international pacesetter of choral music. The group delivers a broad spectrum of choral experiences and performs a repertoire that spans the range from contemporary a cappella compositions, to American folk and gospel, to the great classical works for chorus and orchestra.
The choir has performed numerous concerts with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and has been featured on four separate occasions at American Choral Directors Association Conventions. The group has also performed for local television and radio programs, sporting events, and as featured artists for various community functions. Just recently, Detroit Concert Choir members performed a concert of Broadway music at a local senior residence, and performed at the opening ceremonies for the ALS Walk on the Detroit Riverfront.
The Detroit Concert Choir operates as a non profit under the name Detroit Performing Artists.
