A mainstay of the local Detroit scene, Billy Brandt is a multiple-award-winning Detroit area singer-songwriter, whose rootsy, folky, psychedelic alt-country background underpins strong songwriting and an adventurous spirit. As a child listening to the radio while riding in the back seat of his family's County Squire station wagon Billy heard songs like California Dreaming by The Mamas & the Papas and the Byrd's Mr. Tamborine Man. It triggered something in Billy and after that he learned how to play the guitar to play those songs.

After graduating from college Billy moved to New York and ended up in the merchandising business where he became the Official merchandiser for 38 special, Hall & Oats, Marshall Tucker and many more.

In 1985 Billy moved back to Detroit working in artist development and began playing professionally starting his first band called Ash Can Van Gogh. He started Drum Dancer Records in 1993 as a management label. He cultivated several bands to the point of major label interest and Drum Dancer soon grew to become a full record production label. Soon after he signed a new singer-songwriter named Jill Jack to his label. Billy helped launch Jill's career by releasing her first four CDs.

For years Billy was the front-man for Grievous Angel a folk, rockabilly, blues, and alt-country band and in 2013 started Billy Brandt and the Sugaree's a band that was born from the Live From Billy's Basement videos he started in 2009.

Billy also plays in a duet with Sarana VerLin, where they blend elements of Celtic and Americana roots in what they like to call 'Celticana'.
