Anderson Music Company started in 1938 and today has 3 locations Dearborn, Troy and Farmington Hills. They sell and rent instruments, offer repairs and lessons at all 3 locations. Anderson Music Company supports music education programs in Southeastern Michigan by offering exceptional school services to teachers and students. Their representatives visit over three hundred schools on a regular basis to provide continuous customer service.
Anderson Music Company was founded by Ernest Anderson in the spring of 1938. When Ernest Anderson started repairing and selling band instruments he had no idea Anderson Music Company was destined to span four generations of Andersons, serving countless Southeastern Michigan Musicians.
A professional musician himself, Ernest Anderson initially started repairing instruments and giving lessons in his home.
Richard Anderson, president of Anderson Music tells this story. “My mother wanted to take guitar lessons and saw his ad. That’s how they met. After they married, my dad gave lessons downstairs and my mom taught piano upstairs. That’s how they started. My brother and I grew up in the business. At ten years old, I was helping repair instruments.”
Before long, the business grew and Ernest Anderson began repairing instruments at nearby schools. He opened the Anderson Music flagship store on Telegraph in Dearborn in 1952, where it still exists today in an expanded version. Eventually, sons Larry and Richard joined the family business, and ran it after Ernest passed away suddenly in May 1970. Sadly, Larry Anderson passed away in 2013 at the age of 80.
Today, Richard Anderson keeps the legacy alive with his daughter, general manager, Krystin Anderson. Anderson Music now serves more than 300 school band programs throughout southeast Michigan – some since the 1950s.
