Motor City Guitar opened in the summer of 1988 in a 1,000 square foot store with just a handful of guitars and amplifiers. Little by little, with the support of incredibly loyal local musicians, the store has grown to become one of the largest independent music stores in the Midwest.
A family-owned music store. They pride themselves in having a staff made up of some of the most friendly, helpful, honest, and knowledgeable musicians in the business. Motor City Guitar is a single location 17,000 sq ft brick and mortar store, not a part of a retail chain.
If your guitar needs a simple adjustment, or it looks like Pete Townshend just smashed it up onstage, they can take care of you! Their repairman, Scott Kenerson of SMK Musicworks, is a skilled luthier with over 25 years of experience and has been with MCG for over 20 of those years!
Whether you're just starting out or if you want to take your playing to new levels, some of most talented musicians in the area offer private guitar, bass and drum lessons at Motor City Guitar. Lessons are offered 7 days a week based on current availability. MCG also carries a large selection of instructional books and DVDs, as well as thousands of guitar, bass, and drum books.
