About
Joshua James began studying music at an early age. Starting first with piano, he eventually moved on to clarinet, saxophone, and bassoon, studying with the likes of Paul Ganson of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Greg Koltyk, Andrew Bishop, and Russ Miller. He started playing professional while still in High School before going on to pursuing a B.A. in Music Performance/Philosophy from Albion College and then worked towards graduate studies in Music Education and Jazz Performance from Wayne State University, and a M.M. in Music Education from Oakland University. He parlayed his education into successful careers in performance, composing, arranging, and music education.
Joshua James currently serves on the faculties of Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Preparatory, and West Bloomfield High School along with Madonna University. His current appointments include as applied woodwinds instructor, music technologies instructor, and ensemble director for jazz and concert bands.
In addition to being the current Music Director for Planet D Nonet, he is music Director for The Theatre Bizarre Orchestra Joshua also fronts the Nighthawks Jazz Orchestra, the Bridge Project Big band, the Aston Neighborhood Pleasure Club and works as a sideman in the Tracy Kash-Thomas Quintet and FutureVisions Quintet.
Joshua along with Duncan McMillan operates Musa Canta Music a company that offers Music preparation, copyist, engraving, arranging, composing, orchestration, and transcription services.
