John “Tbone” Paxton is a veteran trombonist and vocalist and is a Charter member of the Detroit musical institution, the "Sun Messengers"; recipients of a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010 from the Detroit Music Awards for 30 years of cultural enrichment to the arts. The Sun Messengers have backed many great artists in the realm of R&B and jazz, and they have received more awards than can be listed. They were the house band for the Detroit Pistons for 14 consecutive seasons, and also played weddings to multiple generations of families! He's also a Charter member of Planet D Nonet. Since its' inception in 2008, this ensemble has received awards for Detroit's best traditional jazz ensemble, 2012 and 2013. He's been part of the Scott Gwinnell Jazz Orchestra, Paul Keller Orchestra, Eddie Nucilli Orchestra, Sun Sounds Orchestra, Orchestra K'Che, Motor City Street Band.
