About

The “old school" feel and tone of Detroit based guitarist/vocalist Joe Stanley is immediately recognizable. Wowing audiences for the last 20+ years in many different scenarios, Stanley has honed his unique and soulful approach playing beside some of the cities heaviest hitters. A rarity for male frontmen, Joe has full command of his vocals and searing guitar skills while diligently leading the band. With his blend of Detroit bred Blues, Funk, soul, and rock & roll, Joe Stanley is set to bring back “the good stuff” to the city he loves.

Joe Stanley started playing out professionally at the young age of 10, and by 13 he started his first working band, Sonic Voodoo, featuring drummer Jeff Perry (Now with Third Man records artist Craig Brown) and bassist Mike Berger (Detroit session player). The group cut their teeth around the city, playing their high energy Blues/jazz/rock fusion anywhere that would have them. Eventually the group recorded their debut EP “One bad sandwich” at Midwest Studios. The album was featured on various local radio programs and sold over 1,000 copies locally. By Age 19, Stanley had formed the genre-defying power house, Jam Samich. JS went on to record 2 DMA nominated albums and regularly played over 150+ shows a year touring around the “jam scene”. After Jam Samich disbanded in 2011, Stanley and founding member/drummer Mike Conley formed the award winning Blues/Rock group Dirty Basement Blues. DBB went on to dominate the local scene and was honored to represent Detroit at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis. Upon their return, DBB recorded their debut album in 2013 with the legendary “Motor City” Josh Ford at Sound Shop studios. “Coming clean” went on to receive multiple DMA nominations and earned them their very own station on PANDORA RADIO. Stanley, having always been chief songwriter and bandleader was ready to step out on his own after DBB disbanded in 2016.

After years of pouring his soul out playing in such historical venues such as The Majestic Theater, Magic Bag, The Blind Pig, Magic Stick, Motor City Casino, Greektown Casino, St. Andrews Hall, the Shelter, The Token Lounge and many, many others, Joe Stanley has returned to his Blues and Soul roots and trio format for his original band. Stanley is also a seasoned session player for hire and sideman for such artists as Tosha Owens, Rusty Reid, RJ Spanglers “Blues Gang”, Bobby Murray Band and many others. "Local audiences are looking for the feel and groove that most modern groups can’t provide, and Joe is stepping up to fill that need.”

Currently Joe is working on another groundbreaking original album with Josh Ford that will feature various D-town hotshots including the breathtaking Tosha Owens and the Motor City Horns.

Testimonials

"Joe Stanley is a highly accomplished Detroit guitarist and vocalist steeped in the traditions of many greats such as Jeff Beck, Freddie King, and the Vaughan brothers. His voicing is at once familiar and unique whether he is playing soulful on the acoustic or burning on the electric.”

- Steve Szanja (Award winning Detroit based producer and Audio Engineering Professor)
