The Gary Greenfelder Orchestra is a powerhouse swing band (13-19 pieces) that plays a wide array of hits from the 20s to the present day.

About

Founded in 1991 The Gary Greenfelder Orchestra has played Swing Band Jazz at 100's of public and private events from Live Concerts, Weddings, Corporate Events and Festivals.
The GQ Jazz Ensemble (Jazz Standards and R&B) The Dynamic Resonance Brass Quintet (Standards, Classical Standards, Dixieland, Jazz & Sousa marches are smaller groups made up of members from The Gary Greenfelder Orchestra.

Gary Greenfelder -Trumpet & Band Leader

In the Fourth grade band program Gary fell in love with learning the trumpet and has played for over 48 years. Also plays in the The GQ Jazz Ensemble & Dynamic Resonance Brass Quintet.

 



Don Lewandowski - Double Bass

Don started in high school playing in a dance band and has been playing for over 50 years. He play for the enjoyment of making music.





Barb Robinson - Keyboard

Barb always wanted to play piano like her mom. Her dad taught her a song when she was 5 years old she played it over & over & over until she was given lessons to learn some new songs. Barb has been playing for 50+ years.





Eric Lundquist - Alto Clarinet, Flute

Eric Started playing piano and accordion at five-years-old In addition to playing the Alto Clarinet, Flute, Eric also plays the Tenor Sax, Alto Flute. He has been has been playing music for over 65 years.





Justin Jozwiak - Tenor Saxophone

Justin has been playing music for over 33 years and also plays the Clarinet, Flute & Keyboard. " I picked clarinet out of a coloring book as my instrument of choice. My dad bought a used one from a friend and I began taking private lessons in the fourth grade".





Jeffrey Wiles - Saxophone

Jeffery started playing saxophone in the 5th grade and has been playing for or 30 years. He also plays the Clarinet & Flute.






Greg Smith - Bari Sax

Greg played through high school but took 10 years off for college. After he finished college he looked for some bands to play in. Greg has been playing for 26+ years.






Laura Vallad - Alto Sax, Flute

Laura has been in the Gary Greenfelder orchestra since 2013 and she love every minute of it. The members are like family to her. Big band music is her passion. began in 5th grade on clarinet. Her father plays guitar and she grew up playing on my grandparents player piano. She has been playing for over 20 yeas and also plays the Tenor Sax, Bari Sax, Bass Clarinet, Piano, Trumpet, Percussion and Bass Guitar.




Mike Upchurch - Trombone

Mike has been playing for over 44 years starting in 5th-grade-band. Playing music allows Mike's artistic and creative self to be expressed!






Jason Hefner - Trombone

Jason started playing in 5th grade band and has been playing for 19+ years.






David Horger - Trombone

David has been playing the Trombone for over 35 years. Past credits include Trombonist with United States Air Force Band of Mid-America and Band Director at Pontiac Academy for Excellence. Since 2013 he's been a Brass Instructor at Evola Music in Shelby Township.





Ian Stark - Bass Trombone

Ian started playing the trombone in fourth grade. His mother played cornet in grade school and His father and grandfather where amateur drummers, so he thought he'd give it a shot and it's been the one thing he's kept doing for more than twenty years. He feels extremely fortunate for all the musical opportunities He's had. He's played Presidential Inaugurations and played with many top jazz and classical artists and even played in a band that opened for Maynard Ferguson. He also plays the Tenor Trombone, Baritone/Euphonium, Trumpet, Tuba and French Horn.



Kevin Chreston - Trumpet

Kevin started playing as a young lad in the fifth grade because he thought it would attract girls.






David Everitt - Trumpet

In junior high school, David played in band from 7th through 9th grade. He then took a 35-year break until 2007 when he wanted to learn to play again. He started playing at his church in the Salvation Army Brass Band in Port Huron. He was asked to play in a community Big Band in 2012, that was when he finally got the bug & the passion to learn to improve his skills. He have been taking lessons ever since and trying to soak up as much knowledge as he can from every musician he meets. David also plays the Flugel Horn.



Otto Alcon - Trumpet

Otto started playing trumpet in the 7th grade ahd has been playing for over 50 years. Otto is quoted as saying, "Being able to play the trumpet is one of God's gifts to me. It is a very personal relationship with myself which brings me joy and a sense of accomplishment. The Gary Greenfelder Orchestra is a family of players. There are bands, and then there are families with a much closer feeling of belonging. Gary Greenfelder runs a great organization. I am blessed to know him and play in this band!"




Keith Waller - Trumpet

Keith started playing the trumpet in 5th grade at school. He played through high school and competed in many solo ensembles. After high school He enlisted into the Army and stopped playing his horn for awhile. After returning from the service he was asked to participate in a group at church and has been playing ever since. Keith also plays the Flugel Horn.




Karen Tomalis - Drums

Karen started playing the piano by ear at age 5, and began piano lessons at age 8. She started playing drums at age of 11 and has been playing for over 25 years. She's worked with many different musicians from all genres of music. Motown musicians, guys from the Count Basie and Art Blakey big bands, London Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Symphony, etc. She also contributed to various recordings and clinics, taught private lessons, and did a four-month contract with a jazz quartet for Celebrity Cruises.




David Harwood - French Horn

David's been playing the French Horn for over 42 years, since he was in the 5th Grade. He's said, Music is the universal method of communication. Music is an important part of my life as it provides a great balance to my "day job" related to technical/business management.





Jennifer Jones - Vocalist

Jenniffer had her first vocal solo in fifth grade and she was hooked! See loved the excitement she felt every time she was able to sing and make music. Jennifer still feels that excitement every time she get in front of Gary Greenfelder Orchestra.





Pete Tocco - Vocalist

Pete started singing in Jr. High school and fell in love with it and has been doing it ever since. He's been Singing Professionally for 25 years.






Paul Venditti - Vocalist

Paul started singing a few years ago after auditioning for a community theater production when the director, Barb Elliot, suggested he had potential as a vocalist. He expresses sincere gratitude for the opportunity to perform with the Gary Greenfelder Orchestra.
