Sam Ridgell.jpg

Samuel Ridgells life was set in motion at early age. On his fifth birthday, his grandmother had gotten him a red sparkle DW snare and from that point on, drums and percussion would become an integral part of who he was. Throughout high school, Samuel had received numerous awards for his work with the jazz band, wind ensemble, and marching band. He had built a reputation as a gifted drummer and drum technician in the local music scene, performing with a number of talented bands over the years, and is currently the drummer of the Michigan pop rock act Rival Summers. With Rival Summers, he has toured across the country with established national artists like The Rocket Summer, States, and Lights among many others, performed at the Vans Warped Tour 2012, and has been featured in Alternative Press Magazine multiple times. In his free time, he teaches drum lessons to beginner students, offers his talents playing drums for many local churches including his home community Christian Life Church in Chesterfield, MI every weekend, and works as a drum technician and production engineer at 37 Studios in Rochester, MI. Since the day he played that red sparkle DW snare, Samuel Ridgell has clocked innumerable hours into his passion for drums and percussion and is setting out to prove that even drummers have a voice to spread positive values like dedication, hard work, and humility. With already so much accomplished and only twenty one years under his belt, Samuel has shown there is so much potential within himself and has such a bright career to look forward to.

Mat Karakas.jpg

Hailing from Rochester Hills, Mathew Karakas has been studying drum set and music since 1988. Upon leaning basic notation and technique at the illustrious Dryden Elementary School he went on to study privately with Keith Ottenbacher at Southern Thumb Music, in Richmond. Simultaneously, he was recording and performing with several bands including Who Cares?, Legion and Abeyance, thus furthering the musical bugs tenacious hold. Embarking on an educational hiatus, Mathew earned a Baccalaureate of Science studying Plastics Engineering from Ferris State University, learning upon graduation that music, not plastic, was his true passion. At one of lifes crossroads, he dove headlong into musical study including lessons with renowned Detroit drummer Sonny Kendrick. Meanwhile, Mathew worked and recorded with the underground outfit 3300 and later in the power trio Bleep. During this continual aural saturation, in October of 2004 Mathew began teaching and thereby passing the torch of music at Guitars and Co. in Macomb and later at Macomb Music Center. He presently teaches at GarageBand Music in downtown Utica in addition to private in home lessons. Recently Mathew has begun taking piano lessons, seeking out greater understanding in the mysteries of music to further inspire the next generation of drummers and musicians.
