About

In 2011, Matt Balmer had a vision to start a new community big band in the Depot Town area of Ypsilanti, and play in the Southeast Michigan area Depot Town Big Band is a traditional 17 piece Big Band playing classic 30s songs to more modern dance and swing charts. They take their influence from such greats as Count Basie, Sammy Nestico, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Maynard Ferguson, Harry Connick, Jr. and Gordon Goodwin.

As a community band based in Ypsilanti, members have come from a variety of places, such as the local universities of Eastern Michigan University, University of Michigan and Michigan State University. During the day, the musicians have other occupations such as CIOs, teachers and medical research, but their hearts lie with the big band era.

DTBB has become a regular mainstay at the historic Haab's Restaurant in Ypsilanti, MI. They play on the 4th Tuesday of each month at 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm. and there is never a cover.
