About

The Troy Community Chorus began in November 1978, when a congregation of Troy residents and out-of-towners sponsored by the Troy Adult and Community Education Department began its career as the Troy All City Choir. In 1994 Troy Community Chorus incorporated as a non-profit organization and has over 80+ members.

1999 Mimi Gass joined as Director after retiring from teaching after having taught music and English at Ferndale High School for 29 years.

If you love to sing the TCC is always looking for new talent! Our members come from all over the Metro Detroit area and there are no requirements to live in Troy to join. They sing a large variety of music and always have something for everyone.

Mimi Gass has been directing the Troy Community Chorus since 1999. She retired from teaching after having taught music and English at Ferndale High School for 29 years, and vocal music at Shrine High School for three years.

She holds a theatre and music degree from Albion College and a Master’s degree in education from Michigan State University. As a member of the Langsford Singers, she traveled to Wales to compete in the International Musical Eisteddfod competition. Mimi is the director of the Twelfth Night Singers, an adult a cappella singing group that performs locally at civic and private functions. Memorial Day weekend of 2008, she performed , the Rutter Requiem with a large chorus, under Rutter's direction, at Carnegie Hall in New York.

Mimi lives in Royal Oak and spends her summers in Glen Arbor, often visiting nearby Interlochen Center for the Arts, where she participated as both camper and counselor. She credits her high school choir director, Mr. Otto Brown, for her lifelong interest in music.
