Born in Detroit, vocalist Pat Smillie moved to Chicago in 1992 where he cut his teeth as a live performer on Chicago's south and west sides. In 1996, Pat and his first Chicago group, The Oakwood Blvd. Rhythm Band, accepted a regular Wednesday night slot at The Checkerboard Lounge where they served as one of the club’s house bands for over a year. In 1999, Pat Smillie Band performed at the 43rd Street Blues Festival. Later that same year, Pat released his debut CD, I Got An Angel.

In the Summer of 2015, frustrated by what he saw as the decline of Chicago's live music scene, Smillie returned to live in Detroit, MI. He started to perform as a featured vocalist regularly with guitarist Jim McCarty (formerly of Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels, Cactus, & The Rockets). He also started a monthly residency with Motown guitarist (and Funk Brother), Dennis Coffey, at Northern Lights Lounge. In 2017 Pat reformed the Pat Smillie Band with music legends Josh Ford, Rhoades and Todd Glass.
