About

John's Carpet House is Detroit's most unusual Blues venue. It's not actually a house but a field on Frederick St. between St. Aubin and Dubois on the city's Eastside.

Every Sunday Albert "Big Pete" Barrow hosts a festival style Blues & R&B music jam that is free to the public. There used to be a house, the informal concerts started behind a house across the street, until it burned. Barrow bought a half block long of empty lots across the street a few years ago. He and others cleaned up the block, removing trees and rubbish, creating the new home for the weekly blues shows. Barrow considers it his backyard.
In 2014 the City tried to shut the weekly event down but it still continues to today.
