In West Africa, a Griot is known as a historian, storyteller, praise singer, poet or musician.

About

The Griot (pronounced “gree-o”) is vinyl music lounge in Midtown and is the old-school creation of Detroit comedian and entainter Karen Addison. The lounge is co-owned with her husband Scott Boswell and Jonathan Taylor.

Like sitting in your friends living room, the Trio created a place where people could come and relax, reminisce, and listen to good music the old-school way.

The Griot plays full catalogs of vinyl covering blues, jazz, R&B, rap, rock and more. The 750-square-foot space has a fully stocked bar with signature cocktails, holds 50 patrons on the inside and 20 patrons on the outside patio. It houses over 2,500 vinyl records, including a full catalog from the late Detroit producer J Dilla.

Every month guest can enjoy the delicious menu of a featured pop-up chef who will provide a delectable cuisine. See the Griot Facebook page for pop-up events.
