Big Ray and the Motor City Kings

Big Ray and the Motor City Kings are a Detroit Area musical group performing blues, classic rock, soul and Motown. Led by Big Ray Haywood’s larger than life vocals and saxophone playing, their act offers an energetic and dance-able repertoire supported by guitar, keyboard and saxophone soloists. The group has performed at a variety of venues ranging from small blues clubs to large festival stages around the state of Michigan

Big Ray Haywood – Sax and Vocals

Big Ray Haywood is the Motor City Kings’ front man vocalist and musical director. Ray grew up playing guitar and piano, but it is his Saxophone talent that has now become the mark and signature of the act. Ray’s driving performances have resulted in the praise of his peers and the opportunity to share billing with artists such as Buddy Guy and Tommy Castro.

Davey Fender – Guitar

Mike Rupprecht – Keyboards and Vocals

Mike was born in Lincoln Park, MI and raised in the back room of a Dairy Queen. Being the youngest of 8 children he was exposed to many styles of music. He moved to California in 1979 and played in his first Blues band while living in Lake Tahoe. One of Mike’s highlights was meeting Steven Stills and jamming with his band. After moving back to Michigan in 1985, Mike co-founded a band called ‘The Strait’, playing original music that got some air play. Then in 2004 through 2012 he played and toured with ‘Insurrection/David Gerald Band’.

Brian Gatien – Bass and Vocals

A very seasoned musician, Brian has been playing the local circuit for the last 30 years with bands like TLC, The Willie Grimm Band and The Jamie Coe Band. Most recently he has recorded with guitarist Paul Warren (ex. Rod Stewart) on his Paul Warren Project CD.
